I’m not making any new years resolutions. I’m not taking a day this week, or next to specifically set goals for 2013.
Because right now I’m working on one thing, and one thing only.
Right now I’m still trying to accomplish a resolution I made a few years ago.
Right now I’m coming back to the words God spoke to me when we last sat down for a heart to heart…the words He has spoken so many times over.
“Heather, the key to unlock that door you’re standing before – the door that leads to the next step, the next goal, the next season – the key is intimacy with me.”
By nature I’m a goal setter and a resolution maker. I love putting pen to paper and then thoughts to action and seeing my dreams come true. But right now I know what the Lord is saying and where He’s leading me and its into a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.
There is still such a long way to go, and there always will be. However, this doesn’t discourage me like it used to. It excites me because as I pursue Him FIRST and make knowing Him my goal and resolution and ultimate destination, there is a guarantee I will succeed.
Not necessarily by worldly, measurable standards. But if I hear God’s voice this week, that is success. If I say yes to Him when Holy Spirit leads me, that is success. If I get to know Him even a little bit, that is success.
I asked God to give me a word for this year, as many of you inspired me to do, and the word was “established”.
This year God is calling me deeper. He’s calling me to become more rooted and established in His love for me. (Ephesians 3:17-18) He’s asking me to let go of the above ground, visible growth, and do the tough work of growing roots. He’s challenging me to become less selfish (oh man, I have a long way to go). To choose joy in the midst of trial. To love, even when it’s hard to love. To be a person of character, even when no one is watching.
It sounds like an impossible list, but it’s not because those aren’t my goals. My goal is Him. My target is Jesus. And his promise is that as I seek Him FIRST, all these things shall be added to me as well.
Whatever your resolutions or goals are, my hope and prayer for you is that you’ll commit your plans to the Lord and seek Him first. That you’ll pursue His heart with as much passion and fervor as any of your more tangible goals. And in doing this, that you will come to the end of 2013 knowing Him more fully, loving Him more deeply, and pursuing His call on your life with fire in your belly.linking up with Royal Daughter Designs
