Tip #5: Celebrate Success
The more you celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” -Oprah
Yesterday I was shoveling my walk and visiting with the neighbors when it happened…the brown and yellow deliverer of dreams pulled up in front of my house – the UPS man. I dropped my shovel and slow-mo ran towards the man in brown. He carried the rectangular parcel as he walked my direction. For a moment the world stood still as I neared him and his jaw dropped. I extended my arms, opening them for an embrace and barreled him over into the snow. The parcel flew up into the air and I reached for it yelling the words “NOOOOOOO”.
Actually, none of that happened. Well I did shovel the walk and talk to the neighbors, and I did squeal with excitement, “my book!” when the UPS man handed me my parcel. Then I raced inside and took this video.
And all of this nonsense leads me to Tip #5: Celebrate Success!
On the long and sometimes arduous journey towards your dreams, there will be many small milestones. Your first blog re-design, your first 100 or 500 or 1000 followers, your first sale, your first (fill in the blank). Each of these small steps along the way deserve a moment of recognition and celebration. A moment of gratitude. A moment to step back and see how far you’ve really come.
Setting goals is such a huge part of pursuing and living out our dreams. But sometimes we set goals, accomplish them, and barrel forwards without taking a moment to stop, reflect, celebrate and possibly even re-evaluate. I for one have been guilty of this in the past and ended up burnt out and discouraged. So now I try to make a point of celebrating the successes, both big and small.
I’d love to do just that, right here and right now. Please leave a comment below sharing your most recent success. I promise not to think you’re bragging, proud or full of yourself.
