Day 30: How to Find God

Sometimes it feels like God is hiding, and only the most spiritual people can find Him. Like maybe He is speaking, but only to pastors and missionaries and those in full time ministry. But where does that leave the rest of us?

day30

When I look at Jesus and who He spent time with, it wasn’t those considered
“super spiritual” – it was the lost, the outcast, the sinner. His closest friends were a handful of common fishermen, a hated tax collector, and an impulsive political zealot – a bunch of regular people.

What this shows me is that God isn’t hiding from us. Quite the opposite, actually. God goes out of His way to be found, to be heard, and seen by us. Why else would He have sent Jesus?

But we don’t live in the time of Jesus, you might say. If we did, it would be A LOT easier to find God. Friends, I am afraid this might not be the case. How many who actually lived in Jesus day would say that in meeting Him, they found God? Even when God took on flesh and dwelt among us, we missed Him. We doubted Him. We hated Him.

So how do we find God? How do we hear His voice?

We take a step of faith, and put aside our doubts.

We stop worrying what others think of us – Christian or not – because gauranteed, some will think us crazy.

We surround ourselves not only with those considered “spiritual”, but those who are desperately in need.

We ask. We seek. We knock.

Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Proverbs 8:17 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”

So again, I challenge you to ask God the questions you have, and listen for His reply. God’s not afraid of your questions.

Be open to what you might hear the Holy Spirit say, even if the answers don’t come immediately, or sound exactly how you thought they would.

When we truly love someone, we don’t knock on their door once, and walk away if there is no answer. We persist because we know being with them is worth the effort and the wait.

I’m writing about Hearing God’s Voice every day in October. You can find a list of all 31 posts as they are published by clicking here.

Amen, amen. I love how you put this. One thing that really helped me in learning this was realizing that ‘super spiritual’ people don’t always hear from God either. They sometimes go through dry times too, but they trust and love God enough to know He’s there and to keep seeking and knocking and waiting without panicking. Thanks for sharing this post!
