Day 22: The More We Follow, the Louder He Gets

How do I take a whole blog post to say that when we hear God’s voice and actually OBEY what He’s saying, His voice become louder and clearer? What story do I tell to inspire you to act on that still small voice, the one nudging you to share a kind word, to give money to the cause, to reach out to that person?

Is it a verse that would encourage you most?

James 2:18 and 22 “But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deed. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds…You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.”

Acting on what we hear God say completes our faith. It shows that we really do believe what we say we believe. But I think it also shows God that He can trust us. When He gives us a little task to do and we obey without hesitation, next time He knows He can count on us with a little more.

So when you’re at the gas station and God tells you to tip that kinda scary looking kid with piercings all up in his grill, and a angry look in his eyes twenty dollars, you do it. Not because it makes sense, but because He asked you to. And when you’re at a stop sign and you see a girl crying at a bus stop, and God asks you to get out of the car and pray for  her, you do it. Not becuase it’s convienient, or logical, or even sane, but because you believe.

And each time you say yes to His Spirit prompting you to love, to give, to reach out, His voice becomes more familiar – like a trusted friend, rather than a stranger. That’s what you’re looking for in a Savior, isn’t it? Someone you can trust and follow? But how will you ever know how trustworthy He is until you step out and obey what His voice is telling you to do?

Have you ever obeyed that little voice and done something that felt a little crazy? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

  1. Excellent post! I have enjoyed reading all of the posts in this series.

This is something I am attempting to put into practice right now. Each time I obey His voice it gets easier to ‘hear’ Him or discern that He is prompting me. However if I continue to ignore Him, my selfishness will ultimately drown out His promptings. This truth is the foundation to building a faith that is based upon God; to living a life that is inspired by God.
